In a meaningful tribute ahead of Veterans Day, students, staff, and community members at Medart Elementary came together last week to create a striking flag display on the school’s front lawn—an arrangement designed to honor local veterans and remind students of the sacrifices made by America’s servicemen and women.
The display features hundreds of small American flags placed carefully in rows. Students from the Jr. Optimist Club and Student Council helped assemble the tribute, each flag adorned with a yellow ribbon in recognition of individual service members.
“It is important that our students understand not just the holiday, but the people behind it,” said Principal Ward. “They’re learning that these flags represent real individuals—our neighbors, family members, and community.”
For many veterans, the display sparked heartfelt reactions. “This warmed my heart seeing all those flags and signage thanking our veterans. After 4 years in the Marines, 20 years in law enforcement, 2 tours in Iraq, and 1 tour in Afghanistan, I’ve been there, done that! And I still get teary-eyed when hearing our national anthem. A big thank you for honoring our veterans!” shared one U.S. Marine veteran.
The tribute will remain in front of the school throughout the month, serving as a powerful reminder of unity, patriotism, and appreciation.
