IT’S NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH WEEK!
Learning takes energy, and a healthy school lunch helps give students the fuel they need to focus, learn and grow. Observed since 1962, National School Lunch Week highlights the important role school meals play in supporting student health, learning and success.
Across Wakulla County Schools, we continue to see just how important that access is. During the 2025–2026 school year, participation increased by 17,784 breakfasts and 58,436 lunches — more than 76,000 additional meals served across the district.
This year, meals are available to every WCS student at no cost, helping ensure students can come to the table, get what they need and return to class ready to learn.

Wakulla County Schools will be CLOSED Friday, October 9, 2026.
After continued monitoring of Tropical Storm Isaias and the potential impacts to Wakulla County, Superintendent Rick Myhre has made the decision to close all Wakulla County Schools tomorrow.
The safety of our students, staff and families remains our highest priority.

Monday, October 12, remains a scheduled Teacher Planning Day with no school for students. Students will return to school Tuesday, October 13.
Families and staff should continue to monitor email, text messages, the WCS website, mobile app and district social media platforms for official updates.

Mrs. Smith’s 1st grade class has been working hard on building their math fluency! Our young mathematicians practiced their skills, built confidence, and had fun learning along the way.

Wakulla County Schools is actively monitoring Tropical Storm Isaias and the latest forecasts for the Gulf Coast. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and make any decisions regarding school closures or schedule changes as the potential impact to Wakulla County becomes clearer.
At this time, all Wakulla County Schools are scheduled to operate on a regular schedule Friday, October 9, 2026.
Families are encouraged to make sure their contact information is current in the Focus Parent Portal to ensure they receive timely updates.
Should any changes become necessary, official information will be communicated through email, text message, the Wakulla County Schools website, the WCS mobile app and all school and district social media platforms.

During Constitution Week, our 4th grade classes traveled back in time with Mrs. Burt to Philadelphia to write the preamble to the Constitution. Students wrote the preamble using ink and a quill just like in 1787, with small tea lights representing candle light. 🕯️ 🪶
This was such a fun and memorable lesson for our Mustangs!

Learning came to life in Mrs. Wade's classroom! While reading Give Bees a Chance, students have been learning all about bees and the important role pollinators play in our world.
One of her students, Presley, brought in some special items her family uses to care for their beehives and collect honey. It was so neat for students to learn from a fellow classmate and connect what they’ve been reading to real life! To make the day even sweeter, Presley gifted each of her classmates their very own jar of honey. 🍯 🐝

Mrs. Strutz’s class put their science skills to the test!
Students investigated which items in their classroom were magnetic while practicing the steps of a scientific investigation. They asked a question, made a claim, tested their claim, and observed and recorded their findings.
Our Mustangs are learning that science is all about asking questions, testing ideas, and discovering the answers!
“P is for Popcorn!”
Our kindergarten Mustangs are learning all about their letters and the sounds they make. Mrs. Finuff's class celebrated the letter “P” with a popcorn party.
Our 5th Graders had a fun filled team time! They enjoyed their well earned break by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors Hoop Hop Showdown!
We love getting to celebrate our students' achievements and our 5th Graders are making great strides this year.
Arts in Education Week - Part 2
Our Mustangs have been making some pretty cool discoveries in music class with Mrs. Rivera! This week, students learned all about the pitch of sound by experimenting with musical water glasses.
By exploring how sound waves travel through the water, students were able to connect each glass’s pitch to a specific solfège and even play songs like “Hot Cross Buns,” “Oh, When the Saints,” and “Row, Row, Row Your Boat!” 🎶
Arts in Education Week is the perfect reminder of how important opportunities like these are for our students. The arts give our Mustangs a chance to create, explore, problem-solve, and discover new ways to learn. We are so thankful for the arts and their impact on our students! 🎨 🎵

Internet service has been restored across Wakulla County Schools. Our IT Department continues troubleshooting remaining issues, and some users may experience intermittent internet disruptions while that work is ongoing.
Regular district and school phone lines are still not operational. Families should continue using the temporary phone numbers previously provided or contact their school-based administrator or identified point of contact by email.

We would like families to know that the disruption was caused by a failure of the district’s main network switch. As our IT team worked to restore service, additional configuration issues delayed the return to full and stable connectivity. District data and systems remained secure throughout the outage.
We appreciate your patience and flexibility as our IT team continues working toward full and reliable restoration of all services. We will share updates as additional progress is made.

At this time, schools will remain open and operate on their regular schedules tomorrow. Instruction will continue, although some internet-based systems and online resources may be unavailable or limited.
